my 2day old chick had wry neck. Treated with poly visol, selenium, and vitamin e for approx two weeks. She is now 8 weeks and is seems to have the bump again and also has a beak problem. It does not close properly - goes to one side or the other. Is this common with wry neck?? And does she need treated again? I thought this was something that would go away... She was never very sick with this and ate and drank on her own. She is as big as all the others - just wondering what the future for her might be. any thoughts would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have had very little success with wry neck correction. But I tried, so I take my hat off for you.
I wish you the best.

Can you post some photos of her?
Can you explain what you mean by she has a "bump again"?

From your description of the beak, does she have a Cross or Scissor Beak?

Put Save a Chick in its water I cannot stress that enough.... The beak thing could be Scissor Beak lets hope not though....if she is eating and drinking fine then that is very good..keep a good eye on her and please keep me updated ;)

This is her. She is 8weeks old now. You can see the cross beak in the bottom one better. But she has the bulge on her right side. When you feel it - her neck has a curve in it. The beak will go to either side.

She has Cross Beak or Scissor Beak which is usually genetic, the only thing you can do is to keep the beak trimmed, provide her with a deep enough feed and water dish so she can eat/drink, sometimes wet feed is easier to "scoop" than trying to pick up individual pieces of feed.

A photo of how she stands would be good. Wry Neck is a neurological symptom caused by genetics, vitamin E deficiency, injury and certain diseases like Marek's.

Th "bump" or bulge on her right side-is it the crop you are feeling? Check the bulge first thing in the morning before she eats/drinks, does the bulge disappear?

Sometimes, even with extra care and vitamin/nutrition therapy Wry Neck and other conditions cannot be corrected. With her having 2 things going on, I would suspect that she has a genetic disorder.

I thought maybe I had it cleared up. Never noticed the cross beak while I was treating her in the first two weeks. I will NEVER order from Meyer hatchery in Ohio again. I had nothing but trouble from the first. Meyer Hatchery has some issues I would say. Usually I get everything from Murrray McMurray - and like my DH says - don’t mess with a good thing. I will probably end up culling this chick as I don’t want bad genetics in my flock. Thanks for all your help everyone!
