Ok here is my deal. A few days a go I hatched a baby with Wry neck..been trying to treat it and it's not working well..today I noticed a sac on her neck. I have a picture to post...what is this and should I have my hubby cull her? (I just can't bring myself to do it.)

Can you identify the crop? Is it air in the crop? That can sometimes be massaged out I believe. There is also a possibility of a leaking air sac with air trapped under the skin. It is not a problem, and shouldn’t be treated unlees the chick is having breathing difficulty or it is getting large.

Are you treating with vitamins B1 and E?

Not the Crop. Ah OK she is having trouble breathing. Hubby wants to pop it and use rubbing Alcohol on it to treat her. Her neck seems to be getting better. I have just started using Electrolites (SP) with vitamins. I tried vite E capsules and other things..nothing worked..but the electrolites seem to be helping.

Most articles say to use an 18 gauge hypodermic needle to puncture, but I have used a much smaller 22 gauge on a baby chick. A sewing needle sterilized can also be used just under the skin. You can squeeze out the air and hold a finger over the needle opening to help it seal. My 2 week old chick looked dead afterward, since it came back again, but then started to perk up, and did well. Mine had some sort of trauma to it’s chest with an injury. Good luck.

So hubby used a syringe and we ended up pulling a lot of puss. It helped her a lot. We think she's on track wooohooo lol

Oh wow...no better feeling than that. I hope the same happens to my baby.

Glad that it went well. Puss does not sound good. It sounds like some sort of infection possibly from hatch. I would not be surprised if it comes back. Do you have any type of antibiotics for a chick or for people? Such as amoxicillin or others? Hopefully others with hatching experience and infections will chime in. I will check back in the AM. @casportpony, do you have any suggestions?
