Yesterday morning I noticed my 5 year old Indian Runner duck was weirdly looking up. It seems he cannot straighten his neck and is just curving it towards one side. He is eating and drinking normally and does not seem to be uncomfortable or in pain. I have done some research and it seems like it could be wryneck? I put some vitamin mix in his water today, but I am worried it is not enough. What is a good source of vitamin E for adult ducks? I have seen some vitamin e and selenium powder on Amazon for chickens but I am not sure if this is the best option or if those brands are reputable. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hi ! Oh, I’m sorry to hear about your duck but with the right treatment it’s highly likely she’ll be just fine! Here is a post. I took a picture of once from one of our educators with the information about what you give your duck for Wry neck by @Wyorp Rock in the meantime, please post pictures of your duck?

If it were me, I'd go to Walmart, CVS, grocery store, etc. and pick up a bottle of Vitamin E and B-Complex. Generic brands are fine. Look for 400IU Vitamin E (180mg) and "B-Complex" or "Super B". Make sure the B has Thiamine (B1), Riboflavin (B2) Niacin (B3), usually there are several B Vitamins, but those 3 are what we want. The complex is just convenient.

As @Jenbirdee posted (my post LOL) egg has sufficient Selenium. If he doesn't like egg, then you can give other food that is rich in Selenium (fish/tuna).

The big problem with E+Selenium combo vitamins is usually the E is way too Low and the Selenium is too High for poultry at least. I'm curious about the product you saw on amazon, if you have a link to that I'd like to look at it.

Thank you for the link.

It's interesting. I think the product would be o.k. if you were looking to just add a small supplement E and Selenium to the feed for the whole flock.
IF my math/calculations and reading of the labeling is correct, you only add 1gram of the product to 4.41-6.61lbs of feed. In the 1gram there would only be 7.49IU of Vitamin E and a trace of Selenium (which is good, Selenium can be toxic if overdone). So for an "additive" it should be o.k., but probably not necessary if you are feeding a nutritionally balanced feed/diet.

BUT you are trying to give Vitamin Therapy to a Duck with Wry Neck, so you are looking to give 400IU Vitamin E, the B-Complex and some egg/tuna for the uptake of E. So that powder would not be suitable for getting your Duck through this Crisis. This is why I suggest getting the individual components instead of an "all in one".

Make sense? And one more thing. I'm not saying don't use it for a general additive for your flock's feed, I have no idea if the manufacturer is good or the product is good/bad, we can only go by what's claimed on the label.
But, I'm one that also looks at reviews. If you look at those, almost every single one is a Amazon Vine Customer Review meaning, they very likely had the product sent to them for free to review or at an extremely low cost. So are the reviews skewed or not.
Don't get me wrong, I use Amazon a lot and I mean a lot and have for years, but I'm also a skeptic when I read reviews. I'll hush now🤐
