I'm really on a hunt for a pair of call ducks. Since I saw them in person at the PPBA Stockton show, I've been obsessed with getting myself a pair of these cuties! I have one offer for a pair that's in Galt (almost two hours from me) and I'm e-mailing someone in Nevada, but I just wanted to check and see if there are any others around before purchasing anything.

I would prefer not to have them shipped if possible, mostly because it's costly. I live in the Sacramento area (Penn Valley, specifically), and I'm willing to drive up to two hours. This means anything in the greater Sacramento area, Yuba City area, or even Tahoe or Reno would be within my target area. If you're even farther away than that but would be willing to drive some to meet me, I'd consider that as well. If someone has a pair they'd be willing to sell cheaply and ship, though, I'd be willing to consider offers. I'm a college student (pre-vet, possibly avian specialty) with no job so unfortunately I can't afford to pay $100 a pair as seems to be the standard price, at least at the show I was at. I will offer them an excellent home for the rest of their lives, and I am very passionate about poultry! I have quite a few chickens that are eleven or twelve years old and still going strong, so my birds are very well cared for. I have three larger ducks right now and I'm experienced in caring for ducks.

My dream pair would be a butterscotch pair (I would be SO happy to get a pair of butterscotch!), but I'm also willing to look into different colors like snowy, pastel, silver, khaki, blue, etc.

Please let me know if you have call ducks available!

Well, breeding season is just around the corner, so check people in your area, someone may well have a waiting list for spring ducklings...also check the NCBA website for shows in your area. Likely no one will be selling show quality birds in the price bracket you are looking, but you might find some pet or breeder quality ones there at a price that works for you.

Yes, I'm hoping to find someone nearby! And I'm not looking for show quality, just some cute pets.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Tina Cardin at two by two petting zoo in Chico has call ducks for sale sometimes, I've gotten whites from her in the past. She sells on Craigslist also. You can always call her.

Also, Carla Freestep in Durham has silkied Bantam ducks, very like the call ducks, and so pretty! http://freestepfarm.com/poultry.htm

I
have some calls, but they are not in pairs, they run in a flock with runners and harlequins, and they are my pets. When they have accidentally hatched ducklings, they are cuties!

Thank you for the suggestions! Boy, those silky ducks are sure cute! I may have to inquire about those in the future when I have some more room.

I actually found a pair of butterscotch call ducks a member here was selling and decided to take the plunge and buy them (although with shipping, it was more than I was hoping to spend, but they'll be worth it!), so I'll have them by Wednesday! I'm still glad to see more local call ducks, though, as I might end up wanting another call hen once my butterscotch pair settles in.
