My Cayuga has been sitting on a nest for over four weeks now. I checked the eggs when she left to go off with her buddies for a short while. Out of the original 12 eggs, one was gone and one was broken, with a hard mass in it, leaving 10 eggs. None of them seem to smell rotten, but I'm wondering what to do if they're still not hatched out in another few days. Should I candle them (have never done this before). Will that tell me if they're viable? Will momma duck keep sitting or will she eventually give up? When should I intercede? I'm new to this, so I want to do it right.
