Oops. Forgot to indicate that I want Jumbo Coturnix. I really only want a couple of hens and 1 roo. So I thought 8 would be safe.

I personally went with 20 eggs to get my breeding group started. Just go with very general statistics... 50% hatch rate from shipped eggs - 10 eggs. 50% female/50% male - 5 hens/5 roos. That would give you five roos to choose the largest of, then your five hens to breed him to.

8 eggs - 4 hatchers, 2 hens, 2 roos. I wouldn't want to deal with those chances, especially if you're a first time hatcher. If you end up with all roos or only one hen, you'll have to order another batch, pay shipping costs again and then hope everything goes well with introductions.

Thanks all who relpied. I found a gal who is going to supply me with 10 eggs.
I already have 42 five week old coturnix. I had my eggs shipped from out of state (bought on ebay) and out of 50 eggs 43 hatched! I did not expect that high of a percentage to hatch as this was my first attemp at hatching anything. I really just want to see the difference in size between the standard and jumbo. So if I only have 4 hatch I will be happy.

I apologize. I try to answer the question asked, but sometimes I forget my personal rule and end up only giving my opinion. It drives me nuts when people do that to me, because the situation is not all written out for us, so then your question gets skipped because of a misunderstanding. So, again, my apologies. I'm glad that you found the amount of eggs that you wanted and needed.
For future reference, if anyone else is looking, ebay is usually a good source for smaller amounts of eggs. Though I tend not to see lower than 20 of the coturnix. You can always ask the sellers if they have a smaller amount.
