Good ideas here for them; I've been hoarding mine and hoping to come up with an idea for them at some point.

/hard to throw away a perfectly good nylon bag!

my local elevator sells 100-150lb feed sacks for .60 cents each. their woven. nylon I think. maybe you could find the same near you.

This cold is making me a bit slow... but I would love to do this as well. How are you using them to keep the weeds down?

I love the brooder idea too! My only problem is that most of our bags are the slick ones that chicken feed comes in.

I've never used these in particular before I was given this idea by a friend who uses them. I grow my seeds in a green house then transfer. When I transfer them I can get the ground ready and cut holes for the plants in the bags. Just cut the bags open and lay flat like you would any other weed tarp, these, from what I'm told, don't break down as quickly. you can use them under mulch in flower beds as well!

i lined my tomatoes with the paper ones last year.cut a whole thru the middle for the plant and staked the cage over it.they work great with mulch or straw over them too.mine lasted all season and by the end there was not much left so i just tilled them into the ground.

since the mesh ones last longer, you can also fill it with your soil and compost mixture, tie it up and lay it flat on the ground.cut a small hole it the top for your plant and you have a raised bed/ weed barrier.the roots will grow through the bottom.you can do 1 tomato plant or several smaller plants this way.works great for a herb garden.

hope you find all the bags you need.
