Presently have two hens (RIR and Buff Orph) starting "retirement," and recently purchased three barred rock ladies. (They are getting along great, btw.)
Was within inches of buying a neighbor's flock at auction when (unbelievably) someone from 5 hours away outbid me. I should have been more vigilant. Really thought I was the only one out here, besides the seller. Sigh.
My preference would be hens from a home/family rather than a hatchery, since eggs and companionship are both desired, and birds tend to be (IMHO) healthier.
Prefer no roos but would accept them if their alternative was slaughter. (Our hens live out their natural lives free range and healthy.)
Anyone within, say, 50 miles of Van Alstyne trimming down the flock?
Thanks,
Christine
