Hello,

I have whiting true blue cockerels that have gorgeous colors. I know so little about feather color genetics but would like to learn more so I can choose who to breed with. I don't know their original source but they were from a local to me not a hatchery.

Like what makes the head black. How can I get the rust color on the upper shoulder like on the gray one in the third picture?

I only managed to get one pullet out of 10 😅 so need to make some decisions. The mostly white are super friendly, gray more skittish and mostly black (not shown all standoffish) but still need to decide who would make the prettiest (to me) babies. Also I want a variety of female colors but I don't even know what options there are because I only have one lol
Ty.

WTB's are a mixed bag as far as coloring goes. I don't think there is any way to breed for certain colors right out of the gate. I have a WTB hen, I thought she was splash until I hatched some of her eggs, all the chicks come out paint because she is dominant white.

I really like the red leakage to only be on the roosters shoulders no where else. Any way to breed for that? And where would I start since it takes awhile to figure out what they have to offer genetically

No. Leakage is random.
The white is dominant white. Not the kind that makes good paints either. I would not breed him.
You could use the blue, and hope for blues and splashes. The darker shading around his neck is typical for blues.

The paints I hatched with my WTB and my English Orpington Roo where quite lovely

Awesome, thank you. So the 2 blues should be good to breed with? What about the blacks?
