WTH? MAILING COSTS?

I ship fabric most times in the flat raters. They are sometimes as thick as 6"....filled to the capacity that I can hardly close it. Just "secure" it with my ONE piece of tape across the flap.

I've shipped this way for 6 years. I was told years ago about the "1 piece of tape rule", so if any postal clerks ever say anything, I tell them that and tell them to ship it.

I do beleive now, there is a 4 pound limit on the flat rate envelope, though.

what is the "1 piece of tape rule".

Everytime before I ship, I go to the USPS site, and check the postage.

The envelope can be as thick as you want as long as it can still close. I recently bought 4 bars of soap that were 4.5 oz each and the lady put 4 in a flat rate envelope. They arrived just perfect.

Oh, I didn't know that! I might be able to shove them into the evelope that way...barely closing it, though. I also just found some priority boxes that are used to mail video cassettes which look like they will maybe fit three bars in... and I was quoted at $4.76 a piece...for one bar. WHEW! MUCH better!

According to what I was told years ago, and what I have done since, you can stuff the flat rate envelopes, but only use 1 piece of tape across the flap to hold it closed.

But if the weight of that box goes over 15 oz, the price will go up from the $4 something.

I love flat rate. I've shipped 20lbs in a flat rate box before.

As long as you can get it in, you are ok.
