So I think I have a good idea for how to whiten my white bird...but what about washing a black one? I thought I'd read somewhere you don't wash a game chicken? She's not particularly dirty-looking....but she's never been washed, either. Do I just trim her nails & wash her feet? Do I wash the entire bird?

How soon before the show do I wash them?

Does anyone have any other tips for a nervous newbie?

I'm taking three of my birds...and it's next weekend. I'm leaving next Friday morning and the show is next Saturday!

We wash all our birds a week before a show. Wash the entire bird first in a flea and tick dog shampoo, then in vinegar water and then in plain rinsing water. The vinegar takes suds of out the bird and the flea and ticks are to get rid of all the bugs.

Do all chickens have bugs? I've looked at mine and never seen any...my husband thinks it's our climate...or maybe it's because most of all are hatched here and it's a new coop...thanks for the tips, though...that means I get to wash them this weekend!

I'll be thinking of you while I do mine too......

Oh that's right...I think I saw that in the catalog. It will be nice to see everyone's purdy birds.

I just hope I can get mine ready & cleaned before then! My Sussex kind of has a dirty butt, LOL Do you know how to wash a Sumatra? Thanks
