WV Spring ChickenStock Sat. April 24 8-12 TSC Martinsburg

Then don't get one. I don't give a crap but, you won't be selling eggs either. ***where's the shoot myself in the head smiley***

Why does helping have to be so hard

You know, I have some nice little Serama's I guess I could bring along. I had not planned to be a vender, really. I guess I can check into the NPIP thing.

Catherine

Wow, really? That would be awesome!

Hey Catherine, as long as you are from good ole WV, the testers will test onsite day of. It's just the out of staters that need to get their birds tested for avian influenza beforehand because that virus needs to incubate for a few days in the peatrie (sp) dish before determining pos or neg. If you're instate, they do not require AI testing.

Deb, How are those eggs coming along? I did hatch some buffs from him so, I was wondering if you scored.

I am having no luck with the eggs I get from you

This time, instead of failing with the incubator, I gave the dozen to my broody bantam hens. I think only 3 or 4 developed. 1 seems to have quit, but I haven't removed it yet. The others look to have about another week to go?

The broodies have been hatching out Silkie chicks left and right though. Guess I have to stick with buying chicks from you lol.

My cockerel in the trio I bought from you is doing his job already. My Mottled hen and possibly my Buff girl started laying and I have their eggs under broodies and some in the bator...all are developing. He should be around 5 months old and the two girls are not quite 6 months old. Do you know if I will get colored chicks from him, or will he just produce black chicks? I can't tell if he has some mottling or not, I guess with my Mottled pullet will at least give split to Mottled chicks though.

He will produce gold chicks if he's put to gold but pattern may have to wait til yet another generation. Im really sick about all the culls I have from this project. Im now taking them to auction or selling them as backyard birds until I get somewhere with them. I hate that folks are dissapointed. I have a young nicely colored cockerel coming up now that I would be glad to give you. You could put your split chicks to him to help with color and your split girls will help with type. I really don't think you'll get anywhere with the roo you have. I have since rehomed his mother because she wasn't throwing anything near mille.

I have a pullet I am keeping of hers ...a sister to your roo but, it's a shot in the dark as to what I will get from her. Let me know if you want that boy and I'll go take pics tomorrow and post them. He has lots of white, buff/red background and some black coming in.

I also purchased a nice trio from Lynne. They arrived last week. They are still young but will throw wonderfully colored chicks. Their type needs work though. Your split birds will go nicely with them. If I get any eggs, I'll give them to you at the swap. If not, you can swing by and pick some up when they start up. You'll be super happy with them.

I am not positive, but I think my Mottled girl has pretty good type for a bantam Cochin. I would have to get some good pics of her to get others opinions though. Which is why I have kept her with the group. I just don't know if she is going to help much with the MF project.

Here is two pics of her before Winter...she has filled out more since. She has an awesome, calm personality too.

I would definitely like to have that roo, if you are sure you don't mind. I can give you something for him if you want. And the eggs would be great, providing I can hatch them lol. My bators and I are having relationship issues! Do you want me to pick him up soon or just wait til the swap?

I am definitely not disappointed though

The two girls I got in the trio are sweeties and I love the coloring of the lighter girl. The roo I have now should give me some cute chicks to play with until I can get a better one, so that is ok too. Colorful Cochin chicks sell well, most people around here have no clue what colors are what, they just want cute chickens lol.

Well, I am glad you are happy. I think that mottled girl is nice. She will get more white each time she molts. She looks young. I would absolutely keep her in the project. Put her with the new roo and you'll be off and running. I'll bring him to the swap. He's just a couple months old so he won't be much good to you now. I'll post pics tomorrow.

She is only 6 months old now, so she was 3-4 months old in those pics. She is a ball of feathers now, almost can't tell she has feet lol.

Well now I definitely have to go to the swap!

Defently going to try and make it this is only about an hours away. If the Favs I have for sale don't go soon I should have an adult flock for sale I will have to get most of them tested before taking them. If all goes well I should have a few chicks in various breeds for sale. Maybe a few Silver Penciled Rock bantams, a few Faverolles chicks, and possible a few D'uccles all from eggs form BYCers and great quality! I hope to see everyone again it was so awsome to meet a bunch of people at the Susquehanna show on yesterday.

Henry
