I'm glad to know that this is within the normal range of the oft-quoted 18 mo molt

18 months is often given, but it's really their second fall/winter of life that the first full adult molt happens.

There are general rules of thumb for molt, but there are always individuals that decide they're going to be special and molt outside of the rules. I had a hen that skipped first year molt (18 mo) and didn't molt until June of her second summer, then she skipped next molt and molted another two years later. Then she had a molt in one year and then seemed to stick with that schedule until this year. I have no idea what her plans are.
