Hello! I’m new here and am also new to the world of raising chickens. We just got our first six chicks and they are all doing amazing but there are two that I cannot tell apart! One is supposed to be an Olive egger and the other a black Wyandotte. Any ideas on how to tell which is which at this point in time? I’m thinking the darker one (#1) is my Olive egger and the lighter one with the white feather (#2) is our Wyandotte but I definitely do not have the eye for this as others do. Thank you!

Thank you for replying, and I hear ya! I’m starting to wonder if one of them is actually a Wyandotte but Because it’s supposed to be a black Wyandotte (and not a laced one) it’s hard to find pictures of baby chicks for reference. And the Olive eggers could look like anything!

I’m guessing #1 is an EE. It’s hard to tellsithout seeing the face. They usually have chipmunk markings, puffy cheeks and “eyeline around the eyes. My Wyandotte chick doesn’t have any of those and has brown dots on it’s face but it’s a golden laced. I’m guessing #2 is the black Wyandotte. I’ve had a bunch of EE and none have been that solid in their coloring but it seems to have the same expression as my Wyandotte. 😁

Thank you! Now that another week has gone by, I definitely think #1 is my OE and #2 is the black Wyandotte. It’s crazy to see how much they change in just a week! I also kept trying to find chick photos of a black Wyandotte to compare to but I couldn’t find much online. I am curious to find out what breeds my OE is from. It has the smallest white marking on its head and dark brown feathers so maybe a Maran.
