My 3 Pullets are almost 12 weeks old (a cream Leg bar, a Saphire & a gold laced Wyandotte) They were hatched & raised by my light Sussex & are now kept in a large seperate pen inside the the main pen. When I let my other hens out into the main garden the Wyandotte gets upset & makes a noise like a baby veloceraptor from Jurrassic park. As soon as she can see the other hens again she's ok. I tend not to let the other hens out for long as I hate to hear her getting upset. Is that kind of noise normal for a wyandotte? The other 2 don't make a noise like that & I've never heard anything like it before. Will she make a different noise from the other hens as an adult? Is it a Wyandotte thing? She's seems very quiet & placid apart from that. Sorry this might seem an odd question but I've never had a Wyandotte before.

I don't think it's because she's a wyandotte; I think it's just her

They all (of different or the same breed) have different personalities. I have two different hens that "crow." I have a few who are quick to make the trilling warning calls.
Trying to figure chicken personalities and quirks could be a full time job...lol.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I've been keeping chickens for just 5 years & started with rescued ex battery hens. The "posh chickens" as my husband calls them are a whole new ball game. This year was the first time we had a broody & raised chicks so a real learning curve. Like you say they are all different.
They all tend to be a little bit crazy & full of surprises but that's why we love them

I'm looking forward to hearing what the GLW will sound like when she's an adult. The other young ones with her still peep & whistle, a lot like when they were tiny. The GLW seems so quiet apart from the raptor noise, which can be heard from inside the house & their pen is at the top of the garden!
