The first breed I ever had were Brahmas and they are very calm and gentle birds, and with the exception of my Silkies, probably the quietest breed I ever had. I don't recall ever having an aggressive Brahma. If friendliness is your main priority, other standard breeds that have a well deserved reputation for being very friendly and gentle include Australorps, Orpingtons, Cochins, and Sussex. If egg production is a priority, Australorps are the best layers on this list.
