Help please! Egg bound or other illness?
1) What type of bird , age and weight.
Silver laced wyandotte, 8 months
2) What is the behavior, exactly.
lethargic, color-less comb, yellow discharge, throbbing cloaca
laid an egg today, but hadn't laid in 3-4 days. Used to lay almost daily.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
2 days, worse today
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Maybe egg bound? Also, could be introduced disease. Just introduced 2 new hens. Quarantined them on antibiotics for 2 weeks first. Other 3 hens seem healthy.
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Unsure. May not be.
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Runny poop with yellow-ish discharge
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Put her along in the hen house. Hoping she will lay another egg. Considering a warm bath.
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Willing to do either. Planning to treat at home first.
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use.
Covered 8 by 4 run with 2 by 4 hen house. Free ranged in backyard during the day. Run has straw bedding. House has pine shavings.
Any input would be appreciated! Thank you.
