Wyandotte with ascites,drain? How?

Found one of my girls walking slow. Feels like a big warm water balloon in her abdomen. Anyone have ideas on a treatment?

Thank you

So advanced liver disease resulting in ascities...
I watch patients go through this frequently. I cannot imagine a chicken dealing with this. Even if there was a way to safely tap & drain her abdomen, it would begin to refill again. It could be a couple days or weeks until you would need to repeat it. I would suggest attempting liver friendly homeopathic options (milk thistle & dandelion root). But, I am not sure it would have time to give relief in its advanced stage. I hope there is relief for her. If you knew a vet that would be willing to tap her & give her a fighting chance. Good luck !

Ascites can be caused by several different diseases that cause organ failure...
......none are very treatable.
Draining, IMO, is only postponing the inevitable.
My first water belly I tried to treat for a few days, she was miserable.
Euthanized and necropsied, she was full of tumors.
Next one got euthanized after only day, egg yolk peritonitis.

I agree with Aart. IMO, the most humane treatment for her is to euthanize her. By the time you notice that a chicken is "off", she has most likely been suffering and hiding her illness for some time b/c that is their nature to hide it. To allow her illness and suffering to linger is IMO less compassionate than a quick and merciful death.
