Wyandottes??

Do they take good care of their babies?
Lazy.. the hatch dates are staggered so a couple first hatches get sat on. My Jersey Giants have far less fatality rates. I discourage broodiness this time of year but the Dottes do what the are hardwired to do.
My Silver Laced never Broody. Golden are content to sit back and relax v.s. scratch & scour for snacks n such.

I don't have any yet. It'll probably be a little while bc I can only find pairs right now.

They are fantastic chickens, lay a decent amount of eggs (not as much as some but enough) often go broody and mine have always been good mothers.
At the moment i have some silver laced chicks (9weeks old) a splash laced red chick (10wks) a blue laced red chick (10wks) and some gold Wyandotte crosses (incorrect lacing but still beautiful!)
these are some photos of them :)

This is my first time keeping chiickens. I started in March 2017 with 5 SLW chicks, hoping for 5 hens, but ended up with 4 roosters and one hen. Long story short i now have 2 gorgouse hens and one Beautiful gentleman rooster. I'm hoping to expand my flock this spring by having baby chicks the old fashioned way. It;s encouraging to hear Wyandottes tend to get broody and make good mothers. That's what I'm hoping for. Right now, even in the cold winter, I'm getting 2 eggs most every day.

So, I was on YouTube last night looking at chickens. I found this one that was absolutely gorgeous to me!! Are they good egg layers? I found someone that has some. The only problem is that they're selling them in pairs. I got rid of 1 rooster this evening bc I only have 4 hens and everyone said that I don't need 2 roosters for that small amount. If I get these, then I'll have 2 roosters again..
