I am getting Silver Laced Wyandotte's and have never owned chickens before. i need some serious help, and any helpful information that i could actually glean something from would be AMAZING!!

I own 2 SLW and they are great. For starters you will need the basics and this is for chicks.

Feeder
Waterer
Brooder
Heat lamp
Bulb for the lamp
Bedding ( pine shavings are best)
And obviously feed. Which should be eather medicated starter feed or non-medicated.

I also recommend you putting apple cider vinegar in their water. (2-4 tsp. To a gallon of water)

If you are getting grown hens you will need the same but not the heat lamp and a coop not a brooder. Depending on where you get them from you have the option of getting the vaccinated.

it sounds like willowbranch already helped on chick necessity.

but for wyndottes, they are very friendly, but dont lay much.

so if you are looking for egg layers, wyandottes are not the breed for you!

-love our Wyandotte! We have a GLW. -super sweet bird! -and, she lays quite well (and about the same time, daily). We average 5 eggs per week from her. She doesn't lay the large brown eggs (like our Comets). They, however, are a good size egg.

I like my beautiful SLW and I would certainly get more, but I must say that she is the meanest of my girls to the younger ones and the slowest in maturing. At six months she appears no where near laying. She is not at all aggressive to people, though not overly friendly either. Her beauty makes up for her lack of personality.
