I've heard some say they were boring or even mean, but I never had that experience with them. Everyone has their most fav and their least fav so I'm sure they're on the bottom of someone's list, like Silkies are on mine. My Lacy was bossy around the feeder, but other than that, they were all three wonderful, sweet girls and excellent layers of large to jumbo eggs. Violet, who is still alive, lays large eggs, but not every day anymore (she's going on 3 yrs old). Yet, I do get maybe 4-5 eggs a week from her still.

I've never had a problem with my Wyandottes being mean. Mine are among the friendliest.

My two SLW's have been more shy than my white leghorns. My white leghorns allow us to pick them up, and even climb on our laps when we're sitting on the ground. My wyandottes have been much more standoffish, even though they were hand-raised by me. The SLW's are beautiful and hardy, and I love them, but I like friendlier hens. I've had 2, and now have a 2wk GLW chick. I'm hoping this chick is friendlier than my SLW's have been.

Otherwise, they are pretty good layers and beautiful on top of it.

I love my wyandottes! I have SLW and BLRW. Eventually I would like to get some blue and silver penciled and maybe columbian. I might even try wyandotte bantams. I love their look and I love their combs.

Some call me the wyandotte master because I love them. It seems that all of ours are great with the exception of one of the SLW roos. When we need a broody hen the wyandottes are always there. The wyandottes were the only birds here that layed when it was way below zero with snow drifts blocking doors. The wyandottes move in a couple packs during the summer and hunt for garden eating grass hoppers.
The wyandottes are so full of personality, there are the shy library type hens, there are the party hens that like to go out and hang with other roos, then there are the normal hens that blend in.

Another thing I love about them is the varieties they come in. You can get buff laced, silver laced, gold laced, blue laced red, dun laced red, dun laced silver, blue laced silver, buff, black, blue, dun, red, white, partridge, silver pencilled, and the ABA also lists some odd colors like barred, BBR, birchen, and many more.

Hmm, I'm not sure why but I don't like wyandottes, and I never have. Like others have said its all personal preference. Maybe i was attacked by wyandottes in a past life or something LOL!

I have never had a problem with my Wyandottes, they are a great breed.

I have one Golden laced Wyandotte. She is not nearly as out-going as my other hens. She is very pretty though and lays a very nice, large, light-brown egg. I can always depend on her egg to be perfect too - never any meatspots/bloodspots or anything. She is very quiet.
