Everyone's replies have been incredibly sweet and encouraging! No one in either side of dh's or I's immediate family (we are close to all of them) has ever done chickens, so this is VERY new to us and we are kind of forging the way.
I have second guessed things we did or did not do with the coop a hundred times. We feel a huge sense of accomplish having it done and doing it as economically as we can.
Anyways, I was looking forward to getting back on line today to see what you all thought because everything I know about chickens, I have learned here!
We cleaned out MASSIVE amounts of coon poop. We ended up talking to two different local agricultural biologists and they both assured us that we went above and beyond what we needed to do to get the coop sanitary. I am so glad we were able to clean things up properly.
We are going to paint the outside barn red (similar to the inside). Our house is tan and white and we have two other old barns on the property (they are our next projects) that were red at one time, but are really weathered. We like keeping things looking like they would have back then. Although I am sure the coop has always been white, but white is kind of boring IMO!

And yes, that picture is totally precious. All 5 of our kids LOVE the chickens, but dd #3 (in the picture) really just adores all animals. They totally thrill her. I think I might frame the one of them looking through the window though, it really captured a moment. How do I submit that for picture of the week?
Again, thanks for all the encouragement. It has really gone a long way in making me feel confident in what we did!
