Everyone's replies have been incredibly sweet and encouraging! No one in either side of dh's or I's immediate family (we are close to all of them) has ever done chickens, so this is VERY new to us and we are kind of forging the way.

I have second guessed things we did or did not do with the coop a hundred times. We feel a huge sense of accomplish having it done and doing it as economically as we can.

Anyways, I was looking forward to getting back on line today to see what you all thought because everything I know about chickens, I have learned here!

We cleaned out MASSIVE amounts of coon poop. We ended up talking to two different local agricultural biologists and they both assured us that we went above and beyond what we needed to do to get the coop sanitary. I am so glad we were able to clean things up properly.

We are going to paint the outside barn red (similar to the inside). Our house is tan and white and we have two other old barns on the property (they are our next projects) that were red at one time, but are really weathered. We like keeping things looking like they would have back then. Although I am sure the coop has always been white, but white is kind of boring IMO!

And yes, that picture is totally precious. All 5 of our kids LOVE the chickens, but dd #3 (in the picture) really just adores all animals. They totally thrill her. I think I might frame the one of them looking through the window though, it really captured a moment. How do I submit that for picture of the week?

Again, thanks for all the encouragement. It has really gone a long way in making me feel confident in what we did!

Nicely done! I watched your original post of your, "should we tackle this project or not?" question. Glad you did.

I haven't read all of the posts, and I'm sure someone has said something but if not...

I would certainly cover those nest boxes up until your ladies start to lay. If they get used to sleeping (and pooping) in those boxes, your going to have some crappy ... (oops...) eggs.

Good luck!

Well from the looks of it, I'd have to agree.. It really is dang near spotless inside. You've all done an outstanding job, for sure.

Are you planning on doing any barn symbols on the barns?

Would LOVE to see a picture of them both to see what you've got to work with... I'd so love to have a barn or two- and for that matter more property to go with them.

At any rate, great job.. Looking forward to seeing what else you patch up on your property.

It looks great!!! I love the last pic

I have to say, your set up is almost identical to ours (we even sectioned off 1/2 of it the same way and will have the original nesting boxes lol). Your giving me a lot of hope and I'm actually quite shocked how similar everything is here lol!! Except your cement floor is in much better shape and our front windows were boarded up years ago. And the coon poop, oh man alive the coon poop! Yucky, it's amazing what a project it can be but it's so worth it in the end! We have some work left to do, but yours gives me hope that ours will be there in the next week or two.

Bad link, could you show us what you were talking about?

Huh... Well it did work.. Must be an offsite direct link block.

Anyway, this is what I was talking about. They're all over the place in PA..

I have yet to see anything done to barns down here in KY.. Most are tobacco smoke barns, and most barns have the doors propped shut with a board..
