WHAT do you do if you get a roo (and you don't want one)? My Lena may be a Lionel.

There are some thick legs, the waddles are dropping down before the other girls' are and I'm getting a different noise coming out of this chicken. . . not a sweet little sound, more of an errr...errr...eeeeerrrccckk. Ugh! Seriously. I am a veg and will not cook this bird. He/She is an 8 wk old RIR. Can one find a home for one RIR rooster? Cuz if it's a boy, he's gotta go. When do I wait to determine the gender for sure? I am more upset at the possibility that I may not have three gals. Because isn't it hard to introduce another to the flock after the pecking order is already established. Okay, I am sure that is enough questions for now. I'll go stress out my husband about this (who could care less).
Alas, pics. These aren't the best. I'll try to get more later that are w/ better light.

Wizbop, I am on my first batch of chickens too, so I really can't tell you for sure, but from what everyone on here says the red comb means roo. However, I've also heard that hens will crow - maybe this is the dominant hen?

Good luck!

8 weeks is awfully young for a err err eruck! LOL Look for saddle feathers to appear and if IT is trying to learn to crow.. well.. there's your sign. They all look the same to me too?

I am going to say pullet too.... But if you can try and get a better shot of the saddle feathers... I have red sex link with very red waddles and comb.. but I get eggs daily..LOL

I am not sure about the sex, but if it is a Roo I am sure you can rehome it. I read somewhere that if you then get another hen the way to introduce her to the other two is to bring them in to her one at a time... then once that is going ok you put her in with them at night while they are sleeping. That is the theory, anyway, but what do I know? All I have is 4 week old babies!
