Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I have all kinds of predators in my area as well. I do let them out with supervision only. The rest of their time is spent in a very large run area. I knew predators were a problem before starting all this up, so I specifically built them a large run. I try and set it up so they have things to do...levels, mirrors, seed blocks, alfalfa leaves for greens, hanging fruit or cabbages, things like this to keep them occupied.

Amazing! You must be great with handy work . Here on the other side, I'm not too well with it and neither is my husband, he claims in order to get things done quick and easily is having the right equipment/tools. I'm inspired by your own design hopefully we can do something similar to that It's a good thing to have trees around, I have trees too but no where near enough to give the chicken coop some shade. How long have you had the chicken coop for? Have you managed to make a few changes during the winter? I'm struggling figuring out how exactly I'm going to manage through winter with this coop. My husband and I already made a raised bed for the coop so that it's not touching the ground directly (works great and will help the bottom of the coop from getting soaked with rain or snow).

Thank you but no...neither one of us are too handy, but we have good ideas, a terrific friend who is a carpenter and a talented handyman. lol We got the 1st coop in Jan and started there. Then added the 10x8 run in March and the 2nd coop in April. The funny thing is we didn't even get our first chickens til almost May. As for the upcoming winter....our handyman will be making us plexiglass coverings for the entire run so that should keep out any wind and snow and kind of turn the entire run into sort of a big coop in itself and the plexiglass will still let in light. Being that the coops are small their bodyheat should help keep them warm.
