Yawning while eating

Mayne they were overeating and needing to adjust their crops that day. Chicks and chickens have many mysteries! I'm glad they are behaving normally.
I think they may have over eaten. I was gone for a few days and think they may have been not eating as much because their feeder was still full. The bigger chickens scare the chicks away (unintentionally, the chicks just spook easily) because they also enjoy the chick feed. Thankfully the chicks have figured out the big feeder so they all stand on it to weigh it down and eat from it so no more stress for them!

My chicks were doing that too. Especially the first week I had them. I was concerned also and I read that they will do that as a submissive gesture sometimes! Now they have seemed to have established who's boss and only occasionally do that. My izzy did it once this AM with me. I can post pix of full crop and empty crop if you want me to. They will get a small "bump" on their breast area in evening. If you want to make sure it is emptying by morning just take food away overnight and in the morning the "swelling" will usually be gone.

Oh okay, that's good to know! They stopped doing it the next day so I think they just overate while I was gone. The big chickens were probably too scary so they stayed away from the food! But I would really appreciate the photos so I know what I'm looking for in case it happens again:)
