Hi Everyone! My name is Tina and I am brand new to chicken keeping. My husband and I just bought a new home, and a large factor of why we moved was so we could start our own backyard flock! We were going to wait until the spring to get baby chicks, but our family was so excited we decided to move up the schedule. We ordered 4 baby chicks last week and yesterday 5 arrived! All seemingly healthy and happy! Our 8 year old daughter is absolutely smitten.
We have a Partridge Cochin, a Buckeye, a Golden Laced Wyandotte, a Black Australorp, and an absolutely adorable yellow fluff ball. No idea what the last one is, as its the "surprise" one. I guess time will tell.
Also at home we have a 3 year old Shiba Inu and a 1 year old DSH. The cat is especially interested in the little beepers, which is why they are safely tucked away in the basement!
In my freetime I love to read. Our new house has a beautiful front porch and a screened in back porch. I cannot wait to sit outside and listen to the chickens while I'm outside reading. Another venture I've started is gardening. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at! I always thought the hard part would be getting the plants to grow. Silly me, it's getting the plants to remain healthy after a few months that's difficult.
Anyway, really excited to get started on this adventure! I've been referencing BYC for months and now that we have the baby chicks, I decided it was time to become a member! I'm sure I'll be posting and asking lots of questions in the future!
