Yay! Broody jap hen discovered today

She's not covering the eggs very well, is she? I noticed that in some of the other pics as well, but I assumed that was just because you'd just put the eggs there and she hadn't gotten them under her yet. But there is still at least one egg that looks like she is completely ignoring it. If she changes around which eggs she ignores and which she sits on, they might go cold and die one at a time.. If she really does ignore some of the eggs, I'd take away all eggs she is not sitting on, to give the rest a better chance.

She was readjusting and after I took that photo she rolled it under, I think she got distracted by me opening her cage to take photos. But I will keep an eye out if she leaves any.

Today was 30+ degrees Celsius so I don't think it's a worry about it getting cold, it's 9:50pm 26 degrees now. Do you think it'll be ok? I've not incubated before, I'd have to look up pref temps etc.

Incubation temp for most species is somewhere around 37-38 degrees Celsius - I don't incubate either. But of course, the closer to that temp, the longer the eggs can survive without being incubated.
Personally, I wouldn't eat an egg that has been incubated for more than a day, but that's just because my brain wouldn't like it, there is nothing dangerous about it. I even read about something called 'Blaut' or something like that, where people eat eggs that have been incubated for a week or so.

I had to google it lol... So balut is duck embryo. My grandparents, aunties and uncles have eaten that. I'm not sure if I have, if so, I was really young but I probably didn't lol I definitely wouldn't eat it now!!

How can you tell whether an egg carries a male or female chick?

I read somewhere that the girl eggs are usually round and the boy eggs are pointy. Not sure how true it is, but I'm testing this out with this lot, hopefully majority girls
