so excited I finally started getting eggs from the chicks I bought in early spring 2017...... But I thought most don’t lay often in cold (sc). 2 hens 1 egg a day

Congratulations I have three nine months old Buff Orpington’s that started laying around twenty weeks and have never broken stride. Wishing the same for your girls.
 
What is that egg contraption? Does it roll them right down from the egg boxes?

He just holds them after you have gathered. Yes they roll them down and help keep them in order from first to last picked.
