Year Old Buffs stop laying?

Guess nature was just taking its course. Got three eggs yesterday, and I suspect I'll get 3 today. I think I'm just waiting on the broody one to get back into the swing of things now.

Ok, gives me hope - might go buy some calf manna today to see if that helps - got 2 eggs yesterday - and one had a peck hole in it I suspect from the chicken that layed it....

They get oyster shell free choice, and I fed them tuna fish yesterday, scrambled egg and boss....

I tell you, between molt, winter light, broodiness and worming - I think you get two good weeks of eggs out of these things! Good thing I love 'em so much!!

improvement here - 5 eggs yesterday - haven't gathered today...

DH thinks we have at least one hen that has never laid a single egg. I'm not so sure. She is the runt and only has one good eye. We call her Little Bit and she is the sweetest thing ever. I don't care if she doesn't lay, I just love her company when I go to the coop.

I have a runt too- She's healthy, just a little bit more petite than the others...I call her "Runty." She's my favorite too, and fortunately, she's the only one who's been laying semi-regularly through this. I guess patience and some extra protein is the key here. You've never had a day where all 10 laid, to tell you that they are all laying?

That's sweet about your Little Bit. My neighbors had a hen they called Little Red, an RIR that was extra small as a chick and was blind in one eye. She never laid an egg, that anyone could tell. I think it was a struggle for her just to get enough to eat, so she didn't have anything left for egg production. No matter, she was loved. And when she died, she was mourned for an especially long time by their sensitive and emotional 7-year-old child. "Do you think I could EVER love another chicken as much as I loved Little Red?" she sobbed.
