Yellow crusty stuff on hens head & neck feathers.

BTW thanks for all of the input, I was racking my brain trying to find out what in the world was going on. I ruled out them eating eggs just because there wasn't any evidence of it. SO again thank you!

We just got 6 new birds to add to our flock today. 2 of them have this yellow stuff on them as well. However all the answers here have given me peace of mind knowing that they are just slobs lol
Thanks everyone.

Yeah she's eating her eggs, I have a hen that used to do that and she got messy like that all the time lol 😂
you have no idea how happy this makes me. I just did a deep dive into anything and everything that could be making my chicken sick. And just now realized the yellow was definitely egg yolk.

I feel silly, because I thought mine had some sort of rare fungus. They are also slobs. What a relief!

I have about 20 birds, I recently introduced 5 new birds to the flock (2 Rhode Island Reds / 3 Black Australorps). I noticed this last week the new older hens (RIR) have this yellowish substance on their head/neck feathers. It almost looks like hair gel. I noticed yesterday that some of my younger hens re getting the same thing. Ironically the older hens quit laying last friday. Their behavior hasnt changed nor their eating habits and other than egg production they all seem fine. I did have a little bullying when i first got the older hens but that seems to have stopped. I did put two ceramic eggs in the coop when i first go the older ones but later removed them, however i put them back in the coop this week and one of the older hens (BA) was pecking at it like woody woodpecker. I cant seem to find these symptoms anywhere. Pics coming soon.
I have the same going on with my hen yellow looking goopy crust on its neck and shoulder wings I put vinegar apple cider all over her hooding it helps I have not been able to find any pictures on the internet of this

Welcome To BYC @Krisssszzz19
This thread is a few years old, so the OP may not respond to you.

Can you please post photos of your hen and the crusts?

Welcome to BYC!! :frow

I skimmed all the replies to this thread and it appears this crusty yellow substance on the OP's chicken and a few others that chimed in was eggs. If you're missing some eggs, your hen is the culprit.
