Hi guys , Any idea what might be causing the yellow, really watery, diarrhea? It's not foamy. She's not moving a whole lot, but is eating a little (meal worm , scrambled eggs and apple sauce) and drinking. I noticed she was mainly hanging out under heat lamp. So I brought her inside, gave her a bath to wash off the icky poopies. It seems like her abdomen could have been a little enlarged? She's about 4 years old and stopped laying earlier this year after what looked like a part of a soft shell was hanging out of her rear. Any suggested treatments?

It is possible that she is suffering from egg yolk peritonitis, and the yellow droppings could be from E.coli infection or liver failure. Ascites or the EYP might be causing the enlarged lower belly. Do you have a local vet who could see her? Honestly, it might be too late for antibiotics to help at this point, but some use them to try and prolong life. I would try to make her comfortable, feed her wet chickens feed, and small bits of scrambled egg or tuna. Bathe her and dry her well to keep her clean.

That's great. Thanks for the link. Just gave her another bath and her is what her vent looks like. I was there when it looked like she tried to poop and it almost looked like there was something whitish yellow in there. She hasn't layed for like 6 months. Could she still be egg bound or have egg yolk drop if she hasn't layed in so long? I just hate this...of course we are heading out of town for a week Saturday....:barnie

Hi guys, so I actually went out this morning to check on her and as she had passed this half egg type thing. I was going to take a picture but by the time I got home from dropping my kids off at school she had eaten it, yuck. But with the passing of that now there was blood in her diarrhea. I started to give her Tylenol yesterday because I thought maybe she was suffering from egg yolk drop . I'm leaving to go on vacation and having a neighbor check on her. But they don't really know how to administer medication. Should I leave water with Tylan in it or should I leave her water with electrolytes in it? She seems to be , her appetite isn't enormous from what I can see. The first picture is the diarrhea I found this morning. The second picture is what was left of the egg thing she passed. The third picture is the diarrhea I just found in the coop. It's looking a little greenish. Sorry about the gross pictures.

You mentioned giving tylenol once and then tylan later. Do not ever give tylenol or acetaminophen to a chicken, since it toxic. For pain, you could try aspirin 81 mg given orally once or twice daily. If you meant give Tylan in the water, I am not sure that would be helpful if she has salpingitis. If you started it already, go ahead and finish it. When you said egg yolk drop, are you meaning egg yolk peritonitis? Some hens with salpingitis can go on to have egg yolk peritonitis. The material in the dropping 2nd picture looks possibly like lash material from salpingitis. I am tagging @coach723 and @casportpony in case they have any opinions on that or the boody mucus in the droppings. Tagging @azygous as well since she is online and responded to your other thread.

Looking again at the pic, I do see yolk material as well as possible lash material.
