We incubated 41 eggs from our Black Swedish ducks, the only ducks we have on the farm. All our ducks were purchased from a hatchery last year. The eggs are currently starting to hatch and one of the ducklings is solid yellow. It is not a problem, however, we are wondering how we got a yellow duckling when I thought genetically Black Swedish were only supposed to have black ducklings. I guess the obvious answer is that our ducks are not "pure" Black Swedish ducks, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Seems the duck has some splainin' to do to the drake!

Even though this post was written 5 years ago I wanted to add my comment in case anyone in the future has this same question. I just hatched 9 ducklings out of 11 fertilized eggs that I bought from a very reputable local farm. Two of these eggs were Black Swedish. Well imagine my surprise when one of them hatched out completely yellow! Cutest little thing, but nothing like her black and yellow sibling.
I could not find any information about this and didn't even see this post until today, but I had contacted the farm to ask them about this. They responded that "though extremely rare, a Black Swedish can hatch out yellow." I guess I got that rare little gem! :)

Yes I should've done that! Here's a few photos...two are of Pogo (my "yellow" Black Swedish) and the other is of Quackers (my other Black Swedish).

They are now 4 weeks old...they grow SO fast!
