I just discovered a reasonable size yellow jacket nest under the eave of my coop, above the run. I considered some natural remedy or knocking it down, but it's too high up and after some observation, I noticed there are an awful lot of yellow jackets. I went out after dark tonight and looked, and there were around 20 on the outside of the nest. I have a bee sting allergy... I got out the can of spray and sprayed the nest. I took care to not use too much. I found only 2 wasps that fell into the coop run area and I would say that only a small amount of spray dripped down into the run area. In the morning I will assess the area again and I won't let the chickens into the run.
My question is: How long should I wait until allowing the chickens into the run? I will look around and remove any dead insects. Besides that, I was figuring on keeping them out of it for a few days? Any ideas? Just want to be safe.

thanks!

Welcome! Safety first, you did the right thing! I would do some clean-up in the morning, making sure that they are all really dead, and then let the birds out. I you need to treat again, repeat. I'm not allergic, but had ground wasps attack me a couple of years ago. Not fun! I sprayed very enthusiastically into their nest, and didn't worry about toxins. Sometimes that's just how it is, IMO.
