Yellow urates; red comb and wattles

Another bit of drama to add to this story. I came in last night and found bright green poop in the cage where this chicken was being held. It was only the fluid around the poop that was bright (and I mean fluorescent) green.

I asked my husband where that came from. He said she pooped it out.

Then this morning, we put her out in a makeshift run where she could be seen and heard by the flock and get some outside time and I moved the cage to clean up some poop that had gotten to the floor. I find a couple of pieces of my devil's ivy plant on the floor. I am thinking she may have pecked at this and that is what caused the bright green.

I know this plant is "mildly" toxic, but I am not sure this is what caused the green poop. She is eating/drinking today. She had some egg, some oatmeal and is pecking at her crumble.
Fecal float test was negative.

She has a friend sitting with her outside in a makeshift habitat. This friends seems to not be handling the heat so well. Will bring them in when the sun hits the side of the house they are in.

Usually the bright green poop means they're not eating enough. Try adding some cool water to her food. It will soak it up and create a mash. It usually works well for me. Helps hydrate them, cools them down, and they love the mash so they'll eat more.

Normally, I would agree with you, but the poop itself wasn't green - it was brown. The liquid that accompanied the poop was green. They both have mushy food in the cage. They are choosing only to eat the egg/oatmeal/watermelon.

She did eat a lot of watermelon yesterday, so that gives a reason for the amount of water in her poop, but doesn't explain the bright green that colored the water.

The green could have been the plant, but since her other poops have been green, that is because she is excreting bile and not eating enough. Her cecal poop comes from the 2 ceca between the small and large intestines where the food is fermented. It looks like spinach color doesn’t it? I would offer chicken feed made a little wet and mushy with water, and a spoonful of plain yogurt, canned cat food, tuna, fish, or salmon, scrambled egg bits, but make sure that she is drinking or getting water added.

Thank you. I went the canned cat food route this evening. Neither of them were thrilled with it.

I put them outside in their temp enclosure again tonight to be with the flock. They seemed to pick at the different food choices they had. I threw them a few hard cooked eggs - part to them part to the others. They did join in that opportunity.

Original girls still has yellow urates so going to keep that routine...out in the am and pm to "forage" with the flock and inside in the heat of the day and overnight. I will do this until the urates clear up and the other girl seems better. She is just off and I cannot pin it down. She is healing from bumblefoot, but that seems clear only waiting for the scab to fall off. But her wattles and comb are very pale and she was separating herself from the flock. They are in different crates so I can tell who poops what. Ber poop seems fine except she is eating little, so she does produce bile-laden poop.

And this morning...another soft shell in the coop. So now I have 2 soft shell layers (the other will have to be a chance find like this one was) I do give them an abundance of free choice oyster shells.

I am thinking about going to layer feed when my pullets are ready, but I know that is not good for my roosters bc of the calcium content, but I am just beside myself with these soft shells.

Could all this drama be caused by the intense heat we're are experiencing?

Now I have to go out and put my broody hen back in jail after a short jaunt out to relieve herself.

:wee

Here is the table set for them:

Regular dry crumble
Wet mushy crumble
Wet catfood
Hard cooked eggs
Oatmeal
Watermelon
Water

They like the eggs and the watermelon

They did eat some mushy crumble when out with the flock tonight.
