This is what happens when one fails to do proper research. I wanted a barred rock, but bought 2 SLW chicks instead, and only noticed it now that the adult feathering is in. They are my least friendly chickens too. I can do without them!

I am sorry to here that..My Slw's are mellow.....
You may want to try Orpingtons...very docile and sweet.
    Good Luck
  3. Hi! If you were close, I'd swap you a couple of Rock pullets for SL Wyandotte pullets.

I hated my Wyandottes too...they never came around to be likable and had to be penned separately. They fought with all other breeds and even killed their rooster eventually.

Wow, all my Wyandottes are fabulous!
The GL are a little more standoffish but the BLRWs and the SLWs are usually under my feet, trying to help with whatever I am doing and the roos are such loves they let me pet them and tickle their wattles.
I have Buddy Henry, Jerry Foley, Paul's Poultry and hatchery stock and have not had any problems with them being goofs.

I had a wyandotte and she was the sweetest, now my Rocks where a different story. They where evil things, the hens would peck at my legs and even brake the skin. I raised them from a day old, but when they hit 4 months they changed [IMG]

Maybe its more just the personality of that hen... I had SLW, GLW and liked them both. I don't make "friend" of my chickens but they are used to me and don't scurry away when I am out with them. They free range and their main feeding area is by the hen house but under cover of the barn breeze way. They mill around. The young BLRW that I hatched from shipped eggs are under foot. They know I am coming to fill their feeder and meet me at the door of their run. Its hard to not step on anybody. I also have Dominique and Cuckoo Maran hens that look like a Barred rock in color pattern. They are the barn supervisors. As I mentioned I don't make them pets and they have chosen on their own to follow me or be in the way.

My hatchery SLW's were all awful, mean and flighty. Guess there is a lot of variation.
