Hello! Another barred rock. I'm pretty sure he's a he but wanting to check before I find a new home for him/her.

I'd say roos 100%

Wow - thanks! It makes sense since he's starting to get some other-than-black-and-white coloring.

To clarify, if he's hatchery stock, he's a black sex link. If you got him from someone else, he could be a BR cross, but not technically a sex link. A black sex link has a red rooster, usually a RIR, as the sire with a BR, Cuckoo Marans or Dominique mother-just has to have barring. Hatcheries rarely do other than a BR for the mother.

Many BR crosses look like that, that are not actually sex linked chicks. I've had BR x blue Ameraucana crosses look quite like that, but since their sire was the barred parent, you couldn't call them sex links, not sexable at hatch as a sex link would be.

I agree with the other poster that he is very handsome!

What speckledhen said about the breeding lol. My home hatched black sex link roo is getting more and more gold, mostly in his hackles and wing bows, and his overall color has yellowed this last year. Don't think it's feed as my br girls are all still black and white. I hadn't realized how yellow he'd become until looking at him next to my oops br cockeral--the little guy is so crisp and white!
