Some say to salt test your digital hygro and some say don't... I say, if the manual does not mention anything against it, I'm doing it. Just don't let salt contact it. Let it sit for at least 8 hrs and you should be at 75%. If not, mark it + or - whatever it's off.
The eggs must have sufficient dryness so as to be able to lose 12% of their weight by day 18. That's not a huge amount. But, you don't want to drown them in a sauna. I was advised to keep my incubator 30-50% and now have read that 58-60 is more correct. I hope I have not lost eggs due to the dryness.
I use a sponge or two. This way I can put it in or out as I desire. The larger the sponge the more surface area = more RH. Cut one in two or whatever... I think this is easier than adding or subtracting water.
