Yes, thats right... Another humidity question

Some say to salt test your digital hygro and some say don't... I say, if the manual does not mention anything against it, I'm doing it. Just don't let salt contact it. Let it sit for at least 8 hrs and you should be at 75%. If not, mark it + or - whatever it's off.

The eggs must have sufficient dryness so as to be able to lose 12% of their weight by day 18. That's not a huge amount. But, you don't want to drown them in a sauna. I was advised to keep my incubator 30-50% and now have read that 58-60 is more correct. I hope I have not lost eggs due to the dryness.

I use a sponge or two. This way I can put it in or out as I desire. The larger the sponge the more surface area = more RH. Cut one in two or whatever... I think this is easier than adding or subtracting water.

Let us know how it goes.

This morning it was 29%, so I added like 5 drops of water, maybe it was a teaspoon or so, and it jumped to 50% !!! These eggs better hatch or so help me...

Wyanluv told me just to use sponges in my LG and not fill the water recepticle until day 18. I just cut 1 sponge in half lengthwise. Wet the sponge, only a half, wring it a little and set it under the heating coil. When I need to add more, I put another half in the front, not under the heating coil.

On day 18, I ended up not using the water recepticle at all, just adding sponges instead. To rewet the sponges, I put warm water in a glass and used a straw to put water on the sponges through the holes on the top.

This method works well for both Cathy and myself.

You might have to add water more often using this method. but I think you will adjust to how much and how often much easier..

and you have more control of how much water is actually being absorbed. take those few drops and divide it amongst all the eggs.

now, how much per egg is that??

see what I mean?

you are doing fine. go read a book.

Just so you know, I feel your pain. Mine is doing the same thing. If I add water, it jumps to 59%, but then a couple hours later, it's back at 29%.

Sorry, not helpful, but, hey, it's my first time, too!

The subject that will never grow old.

I truly believe there is a conspiracy going on against us. It's the incubator companies and the hygrometer manufacturers against us. If we ever figure out a simple solution to our RH problems, they're outa business!
