Yes - they can get over a 4' tall fence

UGH!

He did it again today - TWICE! And to top it off - one of the 17 week old LOs jumped/flew over the fence too! This time I saw her go over, but not him. I have a net - but I didn't want to hang it up until it got warmer outside. I hate to lock them up in the secure run - but I will have to if he keeps jumping the fence.

Once they reached full size, I'd be surprised if my barred rocks would even look at a 4' fence. They used to sleep 8-10' in a tree, but that was with a chair "stepping stool" to the first 5' branch. They hopped up from there.

I'm guessing the LO may not be able to clear it once they're in full production and huge. The rest of them... well, let's say you've inspired me to not spend another dime trying to keep the girls in my yard. I never even pretended to dream of keeping the bantams penned up!!!

Gosh! He just did it AGAIN!

That makes 3 times today in less then 2 hours. I wonder why he suddenly wants to come to the house. Maybe he senses its going to snow tomorrow and wants to get his treats before sundown. I still need to give them some scratch - I better get out there and do it before the school bus gets here.

I put him back in and penned everyone for the night - he's so proud of himself for getting over that fence - me not so much! I didn't want to clip his wings - but I may have to. I can't keep running out there and putting him back inside. And he seems to be inspiring the other Houdini wannabes to try it too.

Any other suggestions to temporarily keep him inside without clipping wings and without having to hang the netting? Something easy like hanging a rope or something shiny perhaps?

Good old Foghorn - he's driving me batty! I was inside the coop/run cleaning this morning and he jumped up on the "roost" over the future gate - about 7' off the ground. Notice how close the roof of the shed is to that level - YIKES!

So I locked him & the flock up to go run errands. Came back and let them out. They were behaving. So I forgot about him for awhile. I glanced outside on a trip down the hall and noticed him on the roost again. He balanced for a few seconds and then flew down to the ground. Where he rushed to the back door and feather danced until I chased him back, grabbed him up and tossed him over the fence into the pen.

Here is my snowy day fix - chicken wire loosely stapled over the top of his new roost. I'm hoping it will deter him from his escape acts. At least until we get a warm sunny day again. Of course why couldn't he have done this last week when it was 60F?!!?

The Flying Houdini Foghorn - with a hop, skip, and a jump - he hopped from the ground to the top of the coop - skipped from there to the fence post beam - and jumped down to the yard!
Negating the 15 minutes I spent putting a chicken wire overhang on that 2x4.
