Yesterday was not good

I agree with Mrs. K. If you lost a chick, it seems like it may have died quickly.
I searched fairly thoroughly and it took almost 2 hrs to find the second of the three so either this one was well hidden or got stuck someplace where it couldn't get out--there are appliances in there. If you read my original account you'll see I was sure 3 got out and one was black--the other 2 were BO.
I doubt the count was wrong on breeds because I originally counted them when I removed them from the shipping box so I know there were 39 there. Can't be sure if the number of BR was off by one as I still haven't counted all the flock--just eyeballed the obvious breeds. BR are easy to pick out in the group.
I don't want you to think I'm bragging but it has been a thing I've been proud of, not losing a hatchery chick. Any I did lose were one or two I hatched myself and that happened within a day or two post-hatch. I've just been careful and. probably. lucky,

My first two groups were 50 BR cockrels when I was a soph and jr in HS--actually 51 as the hatchery tossed in an extra chick. The first year I raised up all 51, the second 50 because of the aforementioned accident. The last 30 years every chick I bought from McM or Tractor Supply arrived at my house alive, lived long enough to fully feathered out and began to free range. Once they got to that point I lost them to predators.
