Yet Another CDC Warning

After searching the forums to see if this was already being discussed I realized that though it was not now, it has been in the past MULTIPLE TIMES. I mean, is there any consensus of actual risk or is this their typical misguided bs?

They have the same warning every year, but usually even earlier due to Easter babies

I was showing my six week old chicks to neighbors yesterday and letting them cuddle my super super friendly silkies. Hope they weren’t horrified if they saw the warning . What’s the fun in having pet chickens if you can’t be ’social’ with them? I won’t be changing my habits.

People just need to wash their hands. Teach your kids to wash their hands. And if they ain't old enough to be responsible and wash their hands, wash their hands for them before they go off and put them in their mouth.

I believe and respect the CDC, and I feel terrible for those folks that died.
With that being said, I can't help but admit that when you said "I’m not gonna stop cuddling my chickens... if I die, I die." my initial reaction was oh yeah I agree.

I think it is a serious concern though and good they're bringing awareness with this huge rise in popularity of backyard chickens. I've heard of folks who were young and healthy when they got it and still said it was the sickest they've ever been and how horrible it was, I can only imagine if you're older or have compromised health.. so yes I am trying to be at least a little more conscious of this. I think we all should. I can't avoid handling them completely but I'll keep washing my hands and not kiss them anymore lol.

I mean, cats are proven to cause schizophrenia and I don’t see any CDC warnings about that. Lol.

I wash my hands after I hold almost anything so it's not really much of a threat to me.
