WOW!!!!! I feel sorry for you guys in Texas. We're getting the tail end of Ike here....can't get out our driveway, blocked at both ends with down trees; our brand new chicken tractor is trashed...poor Checker who was IN the tractor is ok...just a bloody foot, from something...nothing major...tree down on our tree house, in the woods, in our pond, everywhere....sounds like a war zone back there...and it's just as bad everywhere else...our kids had a horrible time getting home from work..one still not home..........and this just a tiny fraction of what a hurricane is like.... It is interesting though to see what the animals do...all our chickens are in our barn, lying on the floor....how do they know that's probably the safest thing they can do???? It's a miracle we still have power...no food in the house though I was GOING to go the store...looks like scrambled eggs for us....:| WE just fininshed a bunch of yard work yesterday and today too cause the weather was so beautiful.....

We're even getting hit by Ike in northern MI. No wind to speak of, just rain, and rain, and rain. My swamp is flooding nicely.

That's 2 hurricanes that made it up here in less than a month.

Wild.

Ike went by our house a little to close We are all ok not damage to house or barn We were truly blessed We had church this morning with no power But hay it is a cowboy church But we had the power that counted though Hope all y'all up north recover from the tail end of Ike

Well, we really got hammered (for us, we never get anything like that

) most areas still without power today and we just got back internet service a little while ago. A lot of cleaning up to do re downed trees and leaf litter, but counting our blessings that it wasn't worse! WE had fun with it, anyway...don't get those weird weather experiences too often here. I really feel sorry for the wild animals...my daughter told me about a flock of ducks (probably migrating) who took shelter in our pond...til a tree fell on the bank..then they all took off...and those poor hummingbirds trying to make it to Mexico....

We got it here in Oklahoma Sat night. We got a lot of rain and lots of trees down also. We had winds up to 50 miles an hour and more here. Stay safe.

Being thirty minutes from the gulf in North Florida I figured we would get a lot more than we did. We only had light wind & very little rain.
The only excitement around here was a fight that broke out at the gas station the night before when everyone was gassing up because the gas prices were going to go up the next day. He probably wishes he would have kept his mouth shut, the cops ended up searching his car and found drugs, so he was arrested.

We got Ike yesterday here in SW Indiana! 90 mph winds and there are still 40,000 people without power today!

Huge 100-150 year old oak trees are down around here. Trees fell on people, houses, and cars yesterday. There were hurricane force sustained winds in the county next to us. And no rain at all!!!!! We need rain not crazy winds all day long! Our chickens didn't know what to do! We have a 6 foot privacy fence around the chickens and the winds were whipping down into the yard kind of lifting the chickens up into the air! They high-tailed it to underneath the coop. They all made it just fine, but it's chilly today and everyone is huddled together and fluffed up. Some of the schools are closed today because of the damage. The newspaper said it was the first time the schools have closed because of a hurricane day in the tristate area.

Last night about 10 pm the gusts of wind started. The high winds lasted until about 3 am. We lost power from 11 pm until just now (1 pm). A few trees down but no one hurt.

They said on the news that we had 75 - 90 mph, hurricane force winds here, too. Funny as I talked to a business associate in Florida today and he said all the hurricanes missed them in Florida...we were incredibly lucky that we only lost power for four hours here, but most of this area of Ohio can expect to be without power for several days. We have at least seven big trees down that need to be cut up...our woods are still recovering from the December 04 ice storm!
