YO GEORGIANS! :)

So I assumed it was my BO who laid our first egg, but I just watched my Polish lay this one!!

@roboduck - HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

   Got the little incubator today! I am now however scared it will be complete crap as it blinks and plays a song for the eggs..... weird right? LOL
it plays music?? That is hilarious! Music for babies is said to help brain development. Maybe it makes chickens lay amazing eggs!

I just saw the first egg get laid too! I have three 6-week-old chicks and one 6 month old OEG Bantam hen (long story, got her a week after the chicks, first time ever having chicks/chickens).

So anyways I have been working on their coop all week and they didn't have outside time. Today I put all four of them out in the small dog run attached to the almost finished coop.

I went to sit with them and drink a beer (important chick bonding time on a saturday and beer helps) when the little bantam started acting strange and staying in the coop and being unusually quiet. Suddenly she went into the back corner and faced the corner and started dropping her wings. I realized she was either dying or about to lay an egg and sho 'nough a minute later a perfect little egg! Actually rather big considering how tiny she is!

I went back to check her cage in the house to see if she laid before in the shavings and nope....this was the first. That was so cool!

Photo (minus egg that is now in the fridge) of the little bantam and the chicks:

Question the bantam is on the medicated chick starter along with the chicks (because she was inside only at the breeders so they are all getting exposed to dirt/grass now).

Do I need to add layer feed to her food? I think having her on coccidia meds in the food would be a good idea for a little while but should I mix the two so she doesn't get calcium depleted? Have to go to Ace tomorrow anyway to buy another bag of feed (I suspect that 75% of the last bag was spilled in the cage and thrown away thanks to the chicks).
