YO GEORGIANS! :)

Afternoon all! Im so miserable with flippin allergies even my hubby is and he isn't normally affected. We really need some heavy rain. My Maran chicks are characters :D don't like the brooder much!

Usually its Minnie that escapes. Not sure if she is blue or black at this point. Her head pops up above the edge of the brooder
I suspect she is standing in or on the waterer. I tell her no and she waits till I'm not paying attention to hop on the edge. LoL I would
be in real trouble if she were a people toddler!! She seems to be a ring leader and does not like it when someone is removed!
My SLW arrived today !! Now my RIR and Silkie are back to laying. Waiting for my EE to start up as well.

No. But I will definitely hold you a little roo when the eggs hatch. I'm so sorry! I'm thinking no more shipped Dorking chicks.

Thank you. I really appreciate it! I can't believe that out of 8 chicks in total - I only have 3. And whether I end up with 3 remains to be seen...

@mrsdszoo - I just stuck the rabbit in the crockpot. I'm cooking it with a very richly flavored curry sauce and serving it boneless over rice. We'll see what the family thinks (I'm not telling them it's rabbit.)

To stop a hen from being broody, put her in a separate enclosure with just food and water - no nest box - for several days. Minimum of 3 days, but up to 7. She SHOULD be over it by the time you put her back with the others.

If you want her to stay broody to hatch them, but still want to gather eggs, mark the eggs that she is sitting on, and just take the new ones each day that aren't marked, OR put her in a separate enclosure with the nest box full of eggs.
put her in a wire bottomed cage with no nest. Just food/water and a roost. If you put her on the ground, she'll most likely just make a hole in the dirt to sit in.
Another trick is tossing her in with a young and/or lonely rooster. He will give her alot of attention ;) , (no nest then either)

I see a lot of you have Marans. I had never heard of them until recently. What is so great about them?

They are also suppose to be very docile. I know we has a blue Marans roo. He was the sweetest roo ever. He was gentle with his girls, and never even turned turned a mean eye to anymore! Would like to get another Marans one day. A pullet with really blackish/brown eggs!

We went over to feed the animals. I noticed Poinduckster and his little group was short 1. It was the little pink bill pekin that was the most social. I found it dead in the corner of the pen. We suspect it might be the tom. He is maturing and doing A LOT of gobbling. We put 3 new pullets in the pen today snd he puffed up at them. I think he needs a girl. BAD. Or it might not have been him that killed the duck but he still needs a girl. If he hurts Poinduckster he will have to figure out how to live in the wild.
