Distemper is the more common one.

Here is what you do. Treat the coop/run. Take as much old shavings/straw out as you can. Sprinkle Sevin's dust on the roosts, in the nests, etc. Let it sit for about 30-60 minutes. Then take a leaf blower and blow it around....that helps get the sevin dust into cracks and crevices. Ok, in the meantime, take a big paper bag and put some dust in it. Put one chicken at a time into the bag up to it's neck. hold the bag around its neck and tilt and kind of roll the chicken. This is what is called the shake and bake method. (honestly, you can look it up on the internet!) Then take the chicken out and lay it on it's back and sprinkle the dust under each wing and into the neck area. Trust me, in like 10 minutes, the mites are dead! I redid the whole treatment about 7 days later to make sure I got any hatching mite eggs. Unless you have hundreds of chickens, this really doesn't take long to do.Okay. Hubby says he has some and I'm gonna do it! But the egg part- can I still eat them same day? Thanks!!
