YO GEORGIANS! :)

Question: my boys are seven and half weeks old. At this point with the girls, I switched them to grower/finisher and then layer when they started laying. I really want to integrate the boys, but should they be eating layer pellets already?? I heard 8 weeks old is the magic number for integration. I just don't know.

Let's just say it wouldn't hurt them, either way. You can feed the girls the grower/finisher, or keep them on layer and feed the boys layer feed. They really just need the protein early in life before feathers grow in (because that's what they use it for) and then it doesn't matter as much. The extra calcium won't hurt them either though.

Although if the girls are laying, they DO need the extra calcium. If you choose to switch to a grower/finisher feed, you can just put oyster shell out for the girls. They'll eat it if they feel the need for more calcium.

Thanks!

This maybe a repeat . I thought I sent it already! I have mixed chicks but they are at 10 weeks now and one is so big he can hardly move. He sits down to eat. He's quite a bit bigger than the others of the same age. Is this a breed or an aberration? All white red comb huge legs and feet!

It might be a Cornish X. They get big really fast and at 10 weeks normally have health issues because they are normally harvested for meat by then... I read that you cant get pic to post so if you want to I can PM you my # and i can post it.... I havent finished going through posts so not sure if you got it posted yet.

I'm so excited to go pick up my ducklings on Wednesday! I've got everything cleaned and set up to take them home and get them going. I'm going nuts waiting it seriously needs to be Wednesday already.

Lol, I can understand that!

I just got my "replacement" chicks this morning, and I was so eager about those, I left the P.O. after getting them, completely forgetting that I also had hatching eggs arriving.

We shan't talk about the replacement chick shipment though, except to say it wasn't McMurray's fault this time. It was the sorting center in Atlanta.

I have a broody barred rock and I have no clue how many eggs are under her. How do I check? I think I read somewhere I wait for her to go to sleep? I would also like to put a few more eggs under her.
She already bit me once, because I didn't recognize what was going on.

Just lift her up and look. That's what I do. So what if they bite you? Their teeth aren't all that big and they don't carry rabies so you should survive the encounter mostly intact. Hopefully she doesn't carry the Werechicken gene.
