YO GEORGIANS! :)

Have you tried Ruckers? I know they have organic feed, but Im not sure if it is non-gmo. I will be getting their organic feed for my two and the babies in the spring if I can ever finish the 3 bags of Omega-3 I got a month ago.

Ruckers is not too far away. I've seen that there, its not a real bad price but just for the heck of it I was trying to find some non gmo. I'm not an organic person by any means but hey now that I know where I'm getting my eggs why not. I've got a buddy who might get me some from South GA but I'd love a local source.

Can any wise Georgia chicken owners give me an idea of what to expect this winter in terms of laying?  My 9 girls are 20 1/2 weeks old and I think I've got 5 laying (but not daily).  I've been reading that they don't lay during the winter, but wondered if that's across the board or if it was different in different parts of the country.  Also, why did I get 5 eggs on Sunday
but only 1 egg yesterday???  I'm impatient, ha!

The biggest reason chickens don't lay eggs during the winter is because they need at least 14 hours of daylight. If you want them to lay all winter you will need to put a light in the coop. Most people who do this will use a timer just to add the additional hours that are needed. A lot of people just let their chickens rest during the winter.

We feed our chickens organic feed. USUALLY organic feed/food should not be GMO but you don't really know until you see the non-gmo stamp on the bag. I agree with you...I eat organic and non-gmo so why shouldn't my girls...especially if I am consuming their eggs. Anyways, my guy knows a guy that he works with that somehow became a private distributor for this particular feed. I am not sure how that came about but you could contact the company. So, we buy Countryside Organics and live in Senoia Georgia. When he places an order we just place our order with him. He lives just a few mins away...it is wonderful! My big girls love it! Maybe someone close to you can do the same?

Since my chickens have long ago eaten everything green in the yard, I often put things like grass clippings, cabbages and other greens in with them. What exactly is fermented food and what about sprouts. Sprouts of what? And does anyone do alphalpha (sp) to their chickens?
