look into a fodder system. It's the easiest, cheapest way to feed you flock greens furring the winter- or any time of year for that matter. You can turn 50 pounds if grain into 325 pounds of feed. Roughly $.14 per pound. We are doing a mix of all organic barley, alfalfa, and kamut (higher protein wheat). Just go to YouTube and type in Cheap fodder system. Super easy, they pull about 70-80% of the nutrients from it rather than about 30% from the dry, bagged feed. Fermented food is about the same. It is just bagged food that is soaked in water until fermentation. Easy peasy. We will be doing a 13-weigh fermented feed here soon. It's a mix of corn, barley, sunflower seeds, ect. thechickenchick.com has a good post on fodder and fermented food. Definitely something to look in to!Since my chickens have long ago eaten everything green in the yard, I often put things like grass clippings, cabbages and other greens in with them. What exactly is fermented food and what about sprouts. Sprouts of what? And does anyone do alphalpha (sp) to their chickens?
Which color variety? Post some pictures of them!Picked up 3 Ameraucanas today at the auction! One of them is nothing but a sweet heart
Glad there is some happy in with all that sad. So sorry for you guys. :/Thanks. GAM had a chance to candle them. Looks like some loose air cells but otherwise ok. We'll see how good they taste....umm.... I mean how well they incubate.![]()
