my chicks are 7 weeks old and just getting too big for inside. i sectioned off a part of the run so the big hens and roo wont bother the smalls. HOwever, is it ok to put the 6 small ones out now? im being paranoid bc its winter. I have a small dog house layered with pine shavings and the off centered opening to keep direct wind (if any) out.
i have 3 EE's and 3 New Hampshire red. (no heat lamp since they were 2 weeks)

any thoughts? so much conflicting info on this topic when I looked it up

As long as they are fully feathered, they should be fine as long as the temps stay above freezing. Once it falls below freezing they might need a place in out of the wind and any moisture. As long as they stay dry, I would think they'd be fine on down into the low 20's or even the teens. Chickens are good at dealing with cold weather. But, again, they have to be fully feathered. We've got a lot of chickens that are totally free range and sleep without any shelter at all and have been fine.

Am visiting my daughter in Leesburg, VA and was on the way back from the wine tasting, when I spotted a whole bunch of chickens in a yard. We noticed that they had a country store so we stopped. This farm had everything! Chickens, geese, big giant friendly pigs and cows and horses and goats! They had a nice pair of friendly Bourbon Turkeys, too. They were really nice and took us all around the farm and showed us all the fun animals. They let us watch them milk the cow and pet the animals. We had a great time (and saved $12 each because we were on our way to a petting zoo when we spotted the farm!) GAM, what type of turkeys do you have?
