YO GEORGIANS! :)

I locked down nine EE last night. My shipped Marans eggs were due to lock down (follow me here) the day the EE hatch... So I went ahead and locked those down today (along with a few more ee eggs), a couple days early. I figured, the couple extra days of no turning certainly won't hurt those air cells. :)

Tonight I will set another 14 eggs (EE and brahma).

Dumb fodder question-what is the difference between barley seed to grow fodder and barley grain? A friend of mine is asking and I have no clue. lol!

Some seeds are 'treated' with chemicals. You don't want that. You want the untreated kind. The treated kind will have a dyed color on the seed.

Exactly. The treated ones are for gardens or fields. The treatment keeps the seed from being eaten by bugs. You probably won't have that problem in your fodder pots.

Thank you Flower and Robo! I would've "assumed" (and wrongfully so) that seeds bought at feed stores would be untreated. He's helping me run numbers, etc and all that :)

Ugh. I'm sick over my hatcher. I moved those last eggs over last night and a couple hours later I checked it and it was 105*. So I cooled it down.. When I went to bed it was ok. NOW Iook and it's been about 94-95 all night. :barnie

I don't worry so much about the day 19/20 eggs as the Marans which are more 16/17. What do y'all think?

Ugh! I wouldn't worry so much with the lower temp, but the high temp was not good! Can you candle a few and see if you see movement? What type of incubator are you using? I am looking for a small one for lockdown-hatching. May not want the one you have. Let us know. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Oh I did candle. They are fine. :) I don't worry AS much about temp swings this late, since I have the handy-dandy link someone posted here a while back. And the spike wasn't for long at all. Honestly I worried more about the low because it WAS for several hours. And it was a "lukewarm" kind of low instead of a good cool one which I don't worry as much about.

Either way all seems well and it appears I'm back on track.

My hatcher is the newer-model LG still air, with the deep base. I LOVE IT. The problem last night was that somehow the vent the bators are sitting beside got uncovered and was blowing ALL OVER them!! I thought I had fixed it back correctly but got up later and realized I still had air escaping. Not sure what was up but now that I wrapped (loosely) a towel along the base of the bator it's steady again.

I think I may duct tape that vent today.
